Just like that! is a dual-channel video work focused on the death of comedian Tommy Cooper, who collapsed and died of a heart attack whilst performing on stage during a live television broadcast. The incident is notorious for the fact that the audience in the theatre, assuming Cooper’s collapse to be part of the act, continued to laugh. In the installation, one screen shows a shot-for-shot re-staging of the original footage of Cooper’s death while another screen shows Cooper recovering from an initial stumble to complete his routine. Both videos use the original audio track and audience laughter from Cooper’s last act. The screens are presented back-to-back.
