Made in collaboration with renowned katsuben Ichiro Kataoka, “The voice of the centaur” focuses on the art of benshi, a popular type of performance in Japan during the silent film era. Before there was sound, katsuben commented films, wrote new dialogue and put their voice to the characters. This film installation presents a benshi performance based on a contemporary interpretation of an Argentinean silent film, highlighting broader notions of authorship and raising the question: whose film are we watching?

This project was produced during the International Creator Residency at Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS), Japón.
